Prof Kobayashi [http://www-lab13.kuee.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~kobayasi/souran2001-e.html] is an associate professor in the Dept. of Communications and Computer Engineering at Kyoto University. We were joined in his office by research associate Tomonori Izumi [http://www-lab09.kuee.kyoto-u.ac.jp/souran/izumi-e.html] and four students.
This meeting had been set up at short notice and Prof Kobayashi only had one hour available, which meant that there was no time left at all after the presentations and demonstrations in which to find out anything about Prof Kobayashi’s activities. He mentioned that although he had heard of Handel-C he knew very little about it, although he said he did know about the Bach-C language. Colin explained that Bach-C is quite closely related to Handel-C.
Just before leaving we asked Prof Kobayashi whether he had any recent relevant research publications written in English. He said that he didn’t have anything he could give us, but he has submitted a paper to the DATE conference [http://www.date-conference.com/] due to be held in Paris in March 2002. He was reluctant to give us a copy of this though, for understandable reasons.
According to his website his areas of interest are:
- Hardware/Software Codesign using System-level Description Language
- Peak-Current Supression by Semi-synchronous Clock Distribution
- Video Compression
- Parallel Processing by Using Functional Memories
Our meeting lasted about 5 minutes longer than scheduled, and soon after we left his office we saw him literally running to his next appointment!
