This list includes some of the useful-looking websites I found relating to computer science in Japan during the course of my sabbatical. They are in no particular order. The visit reports also contain some useful links.
The University of Arizona's Japan Computer Science Project
The "JapanCS Project" was dedicated to increasing the visibility and availability of Japanese science and technology information related to computing and computer science. The project ended in May 2000.
Japan Information Access Project
Described as follows: "The Japan Information Access Project is a Washington, DC-based, independent, nonprofit research center to strengthen international understanding of Japanese science, technology, industry, security, and policy."
Japanese Science and Technology Information (MIT Libraries)
"A collection of useful starting points for Japanese science and technology information."
Sources of Japanese Science and Technology Information (NSF, Japan)
Portal site compiled by the National Science Foundation Tokyo Regional Office (located in the American Embassy, Tokyo)
ACCESS database of Japanese universities and colleges
Enables searching to find which universities have particular faculties/departments, for example.
Jim Breen's Japanese page
Contains a long list of interesting links, including one to his own WWWJDIC Japanese-English Dictionary Server which (according to other people's recommendations) contains an excellent collection of computer science terminology.
J@pan.Inc Magazine
Computing Japan Magazine - Archives.

Type in the URL of a Japanese web page and it presents you with a tool for automatic translation of individual words on the page. (Note: This worked for me when using Internet Explorer with Japanese fonts installed.)
