Pre-release BCIM website

Tuesday 26th May, 2009.

We (Greg, Mike and I) have been working steadily over the last few weeks to get the website ready for launching. The work has included:

  1. gathering, editing and entering content for the web pages and getting staff to contribute, check and approve the content,

  2. preparing for the switchover by converting certain parts of our existing website into self-contained microsites which will stay on the www.lsbu.ac.uk web server,

  3. agreeing with ICT a url renaming policy and a strategy for switchover, with the result that the microsites mentioned in (2) above now have urls of the form “www.lsbu.ac.uk/bcim-xxx” instead of “www.lsbu.ac.uk/bcim/xxx”,

  4. further developing our Drupal theme in terms of css and making the breadcrumbs automatically generated from the page URLs (unless this is overridden by an include file),

  5. creating sets of ex-student profiles for (a) recent graduates and (b) less recent “success stories”,

  6. including more images to brighten up the pages.

Marketing Services have given us a choice of two web banners - one red and the other orange:

It seems that everyone prefers the red banner.

We are now just trying to tie up the last few remaining loose ends (there is still missing content in several pages) before we ask colleagues to proof read it, and subsequently hand over to Marketing Services for scrutiny.
