Team Meeting
This afternoon we had our seventh team meeting to follow on from the meeting that we had on 3rd July. This was (presumably) the last team meeting that Imran would attend, given that his placement year comes to end next Friday (8th September). An unexpected exam invigilation call up meant that Mike couldn't make it, but we went ahead anyway. We noted/discussed/agreed the following.Progress Reports:
- Martin...
- has added a number of new course pages to our external website,
- has been experimenting with the new Google Page Creator,
- has created a new version of the Expiry Checker using MySQL (which is now live),
- has created mock-up suggestions for a new BCIM banner - but still hasn't had a definite response, one way or the other, from David P about whether or not they're acceptable.
- Imran...
- has finished off the new Course Home Pages System; the system is now live within the BCIM account. (See next blog entry for more on this),
- has compiled a new library of images for us to use within BCIM web pages in the future; he took many of the photos himself (they can be found within the "About" section of the StaffWeb - linked to from the Style Guide),
- has inserted a number of these new photos into StudentWeb pages (within bcimnew) in order to brighten them up.
- James...
- finished off the new National Bakery School (NBS) website, which is now live, and spent some time with Jenny making sure that she can update the pages herself,
- added a bunch of photos to the Friends of the Faculty pages (but see below under 'Other Notes...'!),
- has added the CIBS, CGCM, Language Centre and NBS websites to his list of websites for monthly link checking using Xenu's Link Sleuth.
- Mike (sent to me by email after the meeting)...
- updated all of the StudentWeb English Language pages with new material from Gail L.,
- helped Imran to install the new Course Home Pages System within the BCIM account,
- added various photos (as suggested by Imran) to StudentWeb pages.
Other Notes...
- We had a discussion about the fact that we shouldn't post photos of people on our web pages without their explicit permission. James mentioned that the University recently had to pay compensation to an ex-student because of this. As it happens, one of the Programme Directors recently asked me to post a nice photo of a recent graduation ceremony on his Programme page, but after some disussion we decided not to post it on the basis that those in the photo hadn't given their consent.
- We discussed what to do about the few remaining BCIM websites that haven't yet been converted into our new 'house style'. One of them belongs to Mike K.'s Information Management and Modelling research Group (IMMaGe). Mike recently confirmed that this group is still active, and he acknowledged that their website is very out of date. James agreed to create a new website for them, if Mike was willing for him to do this. I promised to email Mike about it.
