Launch!!!
I began following the Launch Procedure yesterday afternoon. Everything went reasonably smoothly, and according to plan, which was a relief!
Below is the email that I sent to all staff this morning. I had some very complimentary emails from individual members of staff in return, which was nice!
Subject: BCIM Staff Home Pages: please check and edit yours Date: 4 April 2005 09:36:43 GMT From: Martin Bush TO MEMBERS OF BCIM MAILING LIST Our new website - www.lsbu.ac.uk/bcim - went live today! The launch seems to have gone smoothly, but please let me know if you spot any problems. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike C. and James P-K. for their help in getting the website up and running. The remainder of this message concerns our new staff home pages ('CV pages'). This is partly a repeat of my 16th March mailshot, but I've added some further information. Our CV pages are extended and re-formatted PhoneBook pages. These are for all of us, not just the academic staff. If you look yourself up via PhoneBook -- www.phonebook.lsbu.ac.uk -- this will lead to your PhoneBook page, as will the 'Search For Someone' facility within our new website. To see your CV page, locate your entry within one of the Faculty staff listings -- www.lsbu.ac.uk/bcim/people -- and click on the smiley. To add or edit entries in your CV/PhoneBook page you'll need to log on to PhoneBook in the normal way via this web page (LSBU-access only): www.phonebook.lsbu.ac.uk/php4/update.php This requires you to know your LSBU Unix/Webmail username and password. If you don't know this then you'll need to contact the University's Computer Services Dept. Notice that you can't edit your name, title, room number etc.; please inform Karen Wilson (wilsonkb@lsbu.ac.uk) if any edits are required to these. Karen is our PhoneBook administrator, which means that she has access to these fields within the database. Note that the 'Biography' field is displayed erroneously as 'More Info:' in PhoneBook pages. Here are some further points to note about the new CV pages: 1) Each of us now has a short, neat www address for our own CV page that is suitable for quoting on business cards or within email signatures etc. Mine is at the bottom of this email message; if you click on it your browser will be redirected to my CV page. Substitute your own forename and surname for your CV page: www.lsbu.ac.uk/bcim/staff/forename.surname 2) Personal fax numbers aren't displayed within CV pages at present, but this will be fixed soon. 3) Soon you will be able to upload your own photo for display in your CV page, although for security reasons your PhoneBook page will still show the photo that has been taken of you within LSBU. (You will still be able to choose whether or not you want your photo to be displayed, as you can now.) 4) Soon you will be able to select up to four publications from your entries in LSBU's 'Staff Expertise' publications database (if you have any) for displaying on your CV page. There will also be a link to the full list, as there is already within PhoneBook pages. If you haven't already updated your CV page then may I encourage you to do so. I would be very happy to answer any queries or to receive any feedback relating to the CV pages or any other aspect of our new website.
